Fancy a healthy dinner? How about 200 gms of Norwegian Salmon filet, grilled or steamed, with Lemon or a homemade Dill Sauce and either a Mixed Salad or Vegetables. Lots of Omega-3, vitamins, no carbohydrates and served at THB 295.

Meat alternative; our grilled beef fillet, 200 grammes with either Mixed Salad or Veggies at THB 440.

The heartier version is a “Beef Fondue”. Available à la Bourguignonne (Diced Beef Tenderloin cubes dipped in hot oil) or à la Chinoise (Thin Tenderloin Slices dipped in hot soup). Everyone cooks his/her own meat to taste being complemented with four different homemade sauces (Curry, Garlic, Tartar and Mustard) and French Fries with both variations.

The deal gets better if you do not come alone. The first guest is billed THB 480, the second diner pays THB 450 and as of the third person it’s a mere THB 420; all having the same Fondue variation. Prices are net, the offer cannot be combined and apply to one bill per table.

☛ For THB 200 a Crêpe Grand Manier would help you to keep your calories count up!

But this amber liquid originates from Thanh pho Hồ Chí Minh (formerly Saigon) in the south of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This time we had no less than 47 winners; we’ll stock up on the promise of two icecold beers per winner - congratulations!

And for THB 90/bottle it is Skål to all the others and the content is as stunning as the design of the bottle!

In the last VespaQuiz we asked about the origin of a product, which we carry at Ticino where it found its staunch fans. The answer is ….. Laos, Lao PDR or the above official name of the country.

Some 40 years ago the Brasseries et Glacières du Laos (BGL) started brewing initially 3 mio. litres of “Bière Larue” and “33″ for the Indochinese export. Renamed 1975 into Lao Brewery Company they launched “Bière Lao” which today is known as “Beer Lao” and some 210 mio. litres of this amber liquid left the two breweries last year!

Ms. Sivilay Lasachack (lower left picture), born in Laos, got trained in Prague and Berlin to become the Brewmaster. She replaced the expensive allemanic barley with first-class jasmine rice - other ingredients are dry yeast and Hallerau-Magnum hops from Germany as well as pils malt from Belgium and France. It is irrelevant, Ms. Sivilay says, that she prefers to drink tea rather than beer - well the excellent beer quality proves her correct.

At Ticino we feature Beer Lao Pale Lager at THB 90 as well as Beer Lao Dark at THB 130 and both have their fans. Correct answer came from 19 readers and they receive a set of VespaShakers in the colour of their choice until March 31st, 2012.

Well, nobody in his right mind would fry gnocchi as they quite obviously explode.

The - only - correct way is to bring water or beef stock to boil, then add the gnocchi which will sink to the bottom of the pan. Once they rise to the surface again they are “al dente”, taken out with a ladle, rinsed briefly under cold water, then added into a sauce pan and finished with a delicious sauce. We, at Ticino, offer them with a variety of sauces. The King of Sauces is the black truffle sauce, a delicious deviation the GorgoNoci (Gorgonzola with Walnuts), a plain Gorgonzola or a simple hearty Tomato sauce.

Alan, Andreas & Gisela, Annemarie, Elisabeth, Felix K., Frederike, Guido, Hakan, Hardy, Peter E., Reto, Roberto, Ruedi and Thomas R. answered correctly and are spoilt for choice as to which sauce is to complement our homemade gnocchi which we gladly cook for them on the house until February 29th, 2012. Buon Appetito!
